Questions, answered plainly

What happens on the dusk walk?

A designer walks your yard with you as the light goes. We ask where you sit, where you walk and what you look at from inside. We set a few test fixtures on the ground and move them until it looks right. Then we write up a plan: every fixture, where it goes, the wire and the controls, and what is not in it.

What does it cost?

It depends on how many lights, how far apart they are, what the ground is like, and what controls you want. We write the price into the plan before work starts. How pricing works has the five things that move it.

Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?

Low-voltage lights often don't need one; a new circuit or a new outdoor outlet usually does. We pull the permit where the work needs it, and the plan says whether yours does. The owner confirms the rule for your city before you rely on this.

How do you keep the light off my neighbors' walls?

We use shielded fixtures, warm white lamps and narrow beams, and we come back after dark to aim each one and dim it. If a light is throwing past your fence, we move it on the night, not a week later.

What about the hard ground, and the irrigation lines?

Much of the Valley has caliche under the topsoil, and it is slow digging. We call Arizona 811 before any trench, we run cable shallow where the code allows, and we plan around irrigation lines on the dusk walk.

Will monsoon storms damage the lights?

Fixtures and connectors are chosen for wet locations, and connections are sealed. After a big storm we are glad to check a system; call and we will book it. Standing water and a fallen branch can still break a fixture.

Can you fix or add to a system someone else installed?

Often, yes. We test the transformer, the wire and the connections before we promise anything. If the cable is brittle or the splices have failed, we tell you and price the repair separately from any new lights.

Are you licensed and insured, and how do I check?

Yes. Our license number is in the footer of every page. You can look it up on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors website, which shows the class and its status.

Do you do emergency work?

No. We do planned work only, and a call at night waits until morning. If you smell burning or see sparks, turn off the breaker if it is safe, and call 911 for a fire.

Still have a question?

Call, or text a photo of the yard. A person who has stood in it will answer.
